Our UNIS MUN November Conference is traditionally a one-day event intended to bring focus to current challenges facing our planet & our common humanity.
This year's theme "Unity in the Face of Crisis" challenges delegates to consider the implications of COVID-19 on world health, international governance, sustainable economic recovery & growth & global peace.
Veteran Delegates, Presidents & Chairs get a chance to reinvigorate their skills & knowledge; delegates new to UNIS MUN have a chance to practice & get comfortable with research, drafting resolutions, lobbying & merging, making points of information, public speaking & dress code malfunctions.
Importantly, we use our UNIS MUN November Conference to encourage deeper-dives into actual UN policies & reforms. This year we have added a special SDG 5 (Gender Equality) Committee dealing exclusively with these significant topics.
We have also introduced a "Reform Security Council" which will have the same issues & topics as our standard SC. The twist is that our Reform SC is based on the actual "G4 Reform Proposal" from India, Brazil, Japan & Germany. Our Reform SC expands the P5 to a P9 with a possible "veto-override" if six of the P9 agree. We hope to find out to what extent this might change the nature of international law & global policy making.
Future conferences will include similar innovations such as a "UN Membership Council" that will hear petitions for UN membership from actual stateless nations not yet represented in the UN; a "Responsibility to Protect Council" that will take decisions on the form of UN intervention in fragle & failed state situations; a "Population Movement Council" that will focus exclusively on issues of migration, refugees, asylum seekers & displaced persons.
You can find out more about these & other UNIS MUN ideas in our UNIS MUN Delegate Manual.
Like with everything we do at UNIS MUN, we hope to learn from each other as we have fun.
